Automotive

The board itself is rarely the hard part. What separates an automotive supplier from a general one is the chain of evidence around it: sampling that survives an audit, a change process nobody can bypass, and traceability that still works four years into a programme.

At a glance
Quality system IATF 16949 oriented
Sampling PPAP supported
Material data IMDS datasets
Process capability CpK ≥ 1.67 target
Traceability per production lot

Automotive programmes run for years and change slowly on purpose. That shapes everything: a board qualified in a PPAP submission has to be reproducible for the life of the vehicle, which means the build, the material, the plant and the process parameters are frozen together — and any change to any of them goes through a release process rather than a purchase order.

What that demands from us is less about capability and more about discipline. Statistical process monitoring with a CpK target of 1.67 on critical characteristics, documented series validation, per-lot traceability back to laminate batch, and IMDS material datasets prepared in-house rather than requested from a plant three time zones away. The technology is the same technology; the evidence is what takes the work.

What it delivers

[ Overview ]
01

Sampling that survives audit

PPAP support with documented series validation and controlled ramp-up. The submission is prepared with you, not handed over as a stack of PDFs.

02

Process capability, monitored

Statistical process monitoring on critical characteristics with a CpK target of 1.67 — the figure that corresponds to stable automotive series production.

03

Material data in-house

We prepare IMDS datasets ourselves, alongside REACH, RoHS, PFAS status and conflict minerals documentation. No waiting on a third party for a customer deadline.

Evidence we supply

[ Specification ]

What accompanies an automotive series release. Items marked on request are prepared per programme rather than by default.

Document Scope Availability
PPAP submission Level per customer requirement per programme
IMDS dataset Material composition, prepared in-house standard
CpK report Critical characteristics, target ≥ 1.67 per lot on request
Traceability record Lot to laminate batch and plant standard
Microsection report Barrel quality, plating thickness on request
Impedance report TDR coupon measurement per panel standard where specified
REACH / RoHS Declaration of conformity standard
Change notification Any material, plant or process change contractual

Guide values for pre-selection. Binding values are confirmed per project against your data.

Design rules

[ Layout ]

The points below are what most often comes back as a query after data review. Settling them before layout freeze saves a loop.

01

Freeze the build with the PPAP

Stack-up, material grade, surface finish and plant are all part of what was sampled. Treating any of them as interchangeable afterwards invalidates the submission.

02

Name the class and the temperature profile

IPC-A-600 Class 2 or 3, and the thermal cycling range the assembly has to survive. These change acceptance criteria and sometimes the material.

03

Specify High-Tg for under-bonnet work

The combination of layer count and thermal cycling in engine-bay electronics puts real z-axis stress on via barrels. This is where the 10 – 20 % surcharge earns its keep.

04

Plan the change process before you need it

A laminate obsolescence four years in is normal, not exceptional. Agreeing the notification and re-qualification path at the start is far cheaper than negotiating it under a line-stop.

Frequently asked

[ FAQ ]
Are you IATF 16949 certified?

Our processes are IATF 16949 oriented and our partner plants hold the relevant certifications. We are direct about the distinction, and we will tell you exactly which certificate sits where — it is the sort of thing that comes out in an audit anyway.

Can you support a full PPAP?

Yes, at the level your customer requires. We prepare the documentation package with you rather than handing over raw data — dimensional results, material certifications, process capability studies and the sample parts.

Who prepares the IMDS entry?

We do, in-house. That matters more than it sounds: waiting on a plant in another time zone to compile material data against your OEM deadline is a common and entirely avoidable source of delay.

What happens if a material goes obsolete?

You get a change notification and a proposed equivalent with the data to support re-qualification. What does not happen is a silent substitution — that is the failure mode the whole change process exists to prevent.
